NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Thursday cleared a scheme under which incentives will be given to the employers providing jobs to the disabled. This is in pursuance of the National Policy for Persons with Disabilities that was adopted in 2006.

UT moots proposal to down all barriers for special children’s admission in govt schools

Chandigarh, January 13. In a move to bring special children into the mainstream, the UT Education Department has mooted a proposal wherein they cannot be denied admission in any government school.

According to the proposal, no fees would be charged from the physically challenged students either.

 

Disability not a ground for dismissal, rules SC

The Supreme Court has held that the government cannot dismiss an employee or force him to seek voluntary retirement from the job if he becomes disabled during his service. 

 

Enabling the disabled

A driver was terminated because he was suffering from defective colour vision. Now, according to the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act if an employee suffers a disability during service, he has to be accommodated in an alternative post.

FOR 14 years, Ho Chan Yeow’s life has revolved around the busy McDonald’s Restaurant in Sungei Wang, Kuala Lumpur.

Ho, 36, who is deaf and dumb, has been part of the food chain for the past 14 years and is recognised as one of the most hardworking staff members in the kitchen. He is known to be focused and hardworking.
